What instrument do you play and why did you pick that instrument
I play the violin and the cello. My mom put me into violin lessons even though I didn’t want to because my interest was video games, but after being in tons of lessons and being able to touch and play the violin my interest for violin grew and I fell in love with the instrument. I picked cello because of the tone it has. Having full connection with the instrument as you play pieces is just amazing.
What do you like about your music lesson
What I like about my music lessons with my private teacher is that we are able to
communicate one on one and talk about the problems I am going through with a piece.
Being able to have a good connection with all my teachers makes all my lessons fun and
well spent as I learn a lot while having fun.
What is the hardest thing you are learning?
Currently in Monday classes we are learning Czardas for the may concert and my solo
for the April competition. It isn’t hard but it is difficult for me because I have a full
schedule daily and I rarely have time to practice and go through all my pieces while
cramming in my homework and projects, but I always find a way to redeem myself and
get back on track.
What is your favorite thing you have learned?
In cello we are learning the prelude by Bach and that has been one of my favorite pieces
played on the cello which encouraged me to pick cello. Along with having a good cello
teacher he has taught me how to play that song. A couple years ago the orchestra played
a fun song called “Danse Bacchanale” which was one of my favorite pieces I’ve played in
the orchestra and hope to play more fun songs in the future.
Is there a song you want to learn how to play?
I want to learn how to play more solos on the violin and the cello and there are numerous
I want to learn. I also want to learn two specific orchestral pieces which are Rhapsody in
Blue and Danse Macabre.
How does it feel to perform with your instrument
Performing solos for the first time this year has been anxious and stressful but I am
getting used to it. Performing in an orchestra gives me more confidence because I get to
play alongside my friends while having so much fun with my peers and my conductor.
How does it feel when you practice a lot and your playing gets better
Sometimes there are days where I will practice for hours and hours and improve so
much. It gives me confidence and admiration towards my playing. I love the violin and
the cello and practicing and being able to shift properly and play the piece properly
warms my heart.
What do you want to be when you grow up
In college I want to major in criminal justice and English so I can become a detective or a
lawyer. I’ve always been interested in being a police officer as well so my options are still
between the three. I want to continue playing violin and cello as a hobby as well.
Do you think learning music will help you with your goal?
One of my major goals is to achieve the golden violin award. Music has always been in
the center of my heart and my life revolves around music. Being able to accelerate in my
skills and play harder and harder music while learning new notes everyday will help me
achieve my major goal which is the golden violin.
